I have been surrounded by Standard Poodles since the age of seven in 1962, when my Mother acquired her first, a lovely black, from Joan Byam at By-Jo Poodles. Mom got bit by the Poodle bug and began breeding her own, under the Kennel name "Cherod". Over the years our household had many Champions, including Cherod's Rebel Jester, Bibelot's Samantha Bewitched, Hi Crown's Wayward Girl, Cherod's That's My Number, Wentworth Andrew, and Bibelot's Tabatha of Cherod. Tabatha won the Puppy Sweepstakes at the Poodle Specialty at under a year of age in 1969. And Samantha won the Brood Bitch Class at the William Penn Futurity in 1968 over all three sizes. I began showing dogs in Junior Showmanship at the age of eight, winning many titles, and appearing on the Children's Show, "Uncle Bobby" three times to strut my stuff. As I grew up, I soon realized that regardless of the trials in my life, my dogs were my best friends. They loved me no matter what phase I was going through. I could never understand how someone could live in a house without a dog to play with, cuddle on the couch with, confide their deepest secrets to, (they never tell on you-honest!) and to mourn with when they faced losses. Over the years Mom's preference went from black to silver, and mine has evolved to red. We have two gorgeous, deep red girls, Betty-Jo and Jenny, who have been fully health tested and genetically screened. Their results have been phenomenal! Their colour is beautiful, they are healthy and their temperaments are solid and gentle- beyond your expectations. Both girls are involved in obedience and have earned their CGN's. They are working toward Obedience and Rally titles and will be Certified Therapy Dogs in the very near future. Their sister Lucy, in Bismarck, North Dakota, has earned her CGC (the American equivalent of the CGN) and has her "Rally Novice" title, and will now be pursuing further titles. Their full brother Murphy, who lives in Germany, is being trained as a Red Cross K9 Unit Search and Rescue dog. On October 16th, 2011, Murphy became "Federal Youth Winner 2011" in Dortmund Germany, beating dogs of all breeds. On October 23rd, he became a German Youth Champion VHD and a Youth Champion DPK! We are beyond thrilled! All of this is a testament to the stability of their dispositions and conformation. Our boy Quincy is now a Canadian Champion! We will be pursuing his CGN, then looking toward doing Rally or Obedience with him. We have a couple of new little girls who will be added to our breeding program when they reach the age of two and their testing has been completed. Watch for Marlowe, a pretty red girl. She is the younger sister of Betty-Jo and Jenny. And the new kid on the block, Cayenne- a lovely red with pitch black points. We have some big plans for this young lady in conformation and performance. All of them have their own albums on the "Our Dogs" page. Keigan who is a full brother to Betty-Jo, Jenny and Marlowe, will be tested when he is two and offered at stud to approved bitches. Dallas, brother to Cayenne, is our new boy. He will also be available when his testing has been completed. Our plans are to have him become a Certified Therapy Dog and become titled in Obedience. We live in the country, north of Toronto, where our dogs are all very important members of their family. This is no puppy mill. At the very most, our girls will enjoy Motherhood a few times in their lifetimes. Our puppies are raised in a loving environment where they are exposed to everything they should encounter in their lives from their moment of birth. We love our dogs, (we cover their ears when we say that because they are sure they are people) and we hope you will too! |
